QuickBooks is financial software used primarily by small and medium-sized businesses. It's used for invoicing, processing employee and client data and managing finances. QuickBooks training and certification is helpful for business owners and managers as well as individuals pursuing careers in accounting.

What's Involved in Training

  • QuickBooks training is offered online by certified trainers and through organizations such as the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers. Training programs teach you how to navigate the software, set up new files and add preferences and password protection. You'll learn to make lists and add and delete information about customers and employees. You'll also learn to use the software to manage financial transactions, such as tracking payments, paying bills and working with bank accounts. Upon completion, you should be able to use the customer center and vendor center, process payroll and create customized reports about various aspects of a company's business.

Training Time

  • The length of training depends on your current knowledge of QuickBooks and the program you select. Some programs are self-paced and self-directed, so if you're already familiar with QuickBooks you can proceed quickly. Other programs give you a set amount of time to study before taking the exam.

QuickBooks Exam

  • Training is not required to take the QuickBooks exam. However, you must take and pass the exam to become a Certified User. You can take the exam through organizations that offer training. Some offer online testing but others require you to go to an authorized testing location.
