From Quick Guide: Aircraft Models Basics

    Control-Line Model Aircraft

  1. In comparison to radio control, control-line model aircraft is a less-expensive hobby. The cost to custom build or restructure your model aircraft is also economically priced.
  2. Aircraft Classes and Aerobatics

  3. Control-line model aircraft competitions consist of an assortment of classes. The classes include accuracy, swiftness, team racing, scale, combat, stunt and naval carrier. The speed for control line model aircraft is broken up into various engine capacity classes. There is also something referred to as a Jet class which causes the model fly as swiftly as it can. In a speed competition, the model is judged by the number of laps the model can make.
  4. Race Competitions

  5. Racing competitions consist of having two people on a team. The team, generally, consists of a pilot and the pit squad or crew. Racing competitions come in different classes such as the FAI race team and the A and B race team. The A and B race teams are for aircraft that consist of diverse engine sizes. The FAI team races apply to universal flying. In race competitions, the general idea is for all aircraft to fly collectively together. The purpose is to complete the required laps before all the other model aircraft. It is also essential for the aircraft to make a pit stop for the purpose of refueling.
  6. Combat Events

  7. Combat involves an event that consists of pod-and-boom aircraft or flying-wing aircraft that fly in pairs. The maneuvering techniques are remarkable. In the competitions, each individual model drags a paper streamer. You must try to slice your opponent's streamer as much as you can with your aircraft's wing or propeller. Every slice or cut on the streamer produces a higher score. Pilots are also judged by the penalties made. In addition, if you slice your opponent's streamer completely off, you have made what is referred to as a "kill" and become the winner of the match.
  8. Navy Carrier Events

  9. In this competition, a required number of laps must be completed as quickly as possible and are trailed by laps that are flown slowly and as unhurried as possible. Navy carrier competitions consist of events that involve flying semi-scale aircraft models of genuine naval aircraft, and the competitions are similar to full-scale carrier air crafts.
