Stickers - Most of us have bought a box of greeting cards that contain a variety cards for every season or event. The problem is that many times we end up with leftover cards because the saying inside just doesn't seem to be appropriate for the person that we want to give it to. However, that doesn't mean that we have to toss them out. You can re-purpose the cards and make handmade gift boxes to keep around for your next gift-giving opportunity. Just sort through your unused greeting cards and group together the ones that can be combined to make a box for a particular event such as Christmas, a birthday, bridal shower, wedding, etc.
- A great template to use for making boxes is a Chinese take-out food box--you know the little white boxes that your food comes in when you order Chinese take-out. You can ask your local Chinese restaurant for a clean empty box or they can be purchased from any restaurant supply or bulk food store. Open all sides of the box and lay it out flat and use it as a guide to make your own boxes. Next, determine how big you want your box to be. Use a glue stick to attach the cards together to form the overall size that you desire then use a ruler to measure and mark your fold and cut lines.
- Choose which design you want to appear on the top, front and sides of your box so that when the box is folded and glued together, they will line up appropriately. Once the box has been formed, you can attach ribbon, a bow, glitter stickers or any other embellishments you want to create a customized look to your box. Now the next time you want to give a gift you will have a handmade gift box that your recipient will surely treasure!
- It is best to wrap your gift in colorful tissue paper before putting it into your greeting card gift box. You can use extra tissue paper as padding inside the box to keep your gift secure. Not only does this give your gift that extra special touch, but your gift will be protected from moving around and possibly breaking if it is a fragile item. After placing your gift inside the box, simply interlock the top tabs and seal shut with a small piece of tape or decorative sticker.
