What Is Network Sequencing?

Network sequencing is an important innovation in computer science that allows large amounts of information/data to travel across communications networks quickly in small separate packets and remain readable when the data reaches its destination.

  1. Sequencing

    • Sequencing "labels" data packets allowing them to travel separate paths in the network but remain identifiable in relation to another at the destination node. The labeling consists of identifying numbers or codes assigned to each individual data packet.

    Re-sequencing

    • With the identifying numeric label attached, each packet can be re-sequenced at the receiving end or node where the data packets are reassembled in their original form and content order.

    Added Benefits

    • Packet sequencing in networks has additional benefits that inure to the network's efficiency, consistency and quality and ensures security by protecting data in and across networks.

    Network Industry Standards

    • The Transmission Connection Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the industry standard of network protocols developed by the U.S. Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This is the standard protocol for one or more computers or networks to communicate with one another.
