About Backcountry Hunting Gear

Hunting can be an interesting and challenging sport. Many hunters travel deep within dangerous territory in search for game. For serious hunters, a weekend of hunting also means a weekend of camping and survival. You should be aware of all the equipment that will benefit you while on a hunting trip.

    Firearms

  1. Backcountry hunting is primarily done using a rifle with a scope. A rifleman will need to bring special lubricants for the rifle. A light source will also be needed for working on the rifle at night. With the bullets, you will need to choose between round nosed, flat point and pointed.
  2. Decoys

  3. Decoys are used to lure game into your crossfire. Big game decoys include large models of deers. There are also a large variety of waterfowl decoys like duck decoys and goose decoys. These decoys are designed to appear realistic, distracting the game. There are also game calls that mimic the sounds of different animals.
  4. Cases, Packs and Holders

  5. Depending on how much ammo you are planning to bring, you might need an ammo case. A holster and sling will also be necessary for carrying your firearm. A case for the firearm will be necessary if you want to protect your firearm from unnecessary damage. A camping backpack will also be useful for holding all other supplies.
  6. Hunting Clothing

  7. Hunting clothing should be chosen based on how much camouflage the clothing provides, how easy the hunter can shoot with the clothing, how suitable the clothing is for the climate of the hunting ground and whether or not the clothing masks a hunter's scent from the game.
  8. Waterfowl

  9. When hunting waterfowl, there are blinds available that will allow you to cover yourself and further camouflage yourself. Duck boats and decoy retrievers are also necessary for recovering both your decoy and your shot game.
  10. Camping

  11. If the hunting trip is to be extended, hunters should bring camping gear, such as a tent and sleeping bag. Portable stoves are also useful if there are plans to cook the game.
