About Jade Jewelry

Jade is a precious stone that is often used to make jewelry, particularly in eastern Asian nations like China and Burma. Jade jewelry is often made in Asia because a lot of Asian cultures believe that the jade is a source of good energy and that wearing it can help protect people from a lot of negative things, including danger, bad luck and evil spirits. These are just a few of the reasons why jade jewelry is so popular in many parts of Asia. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Significance

    • Jade jewelry and ornaments are often used as symbols of wealth and riches. Many Asian countries have a lot of Buddhists, and from the Buddhism viewpoint, jade jewelry helps to keep people far away from harm and draw them closer to good luck and positive energy. These are the reasons why the jade is considered precious, and why many people enjoy wearing jade jewelry.

    Process

    • Like a lot of other different types of gems that transform from raw materials into beautiful finished products, the jade has to undergo several treatment processes including cutting, designing, rough stone, carving, and then finally sanding and polishing. All of these procedures help to give the jade the sparkling and smooth appearance it has as jewelry.

    Considerations

    • When you are examining jade jewelry and trying to determine whether it is high quality or not, you should pay attention to four basic components that can help you make that judgment, which are clarity and translucency (honey-like transparency is ideal), color and tone (look for penetrating colors), cutting (the shape is important) and finally the texture (everything from fine to coarse is common in jade; though clear is the best).

    Types

    • Alexis D'Amour is a French minerologist who divided up jade into two different categories back in 1863. These two types are soft jade, which is an ancient Chinese jade that is also often referred to as Nephrite, and hard jade, which is also commonly known as jadeite. You can find both soft jade and hard jade jewelry options out there.
