About Sharp LCD TVs

When shopping for LCD TVs,you need to look at brand names. The Sharp Brand of LCD TVs is renowned for its quality and variety of LCD HD sets. There are several different kinds of Sharp LCD TVs, including the budget-friendly LC series and ultra high-end limited edition Aquos series. Although there are plenty of Sharp models currently available, Sharp is looking to expand its line of LCD TVs in the future to offer more variety and higher-end models.

  1. The LC Series

    • The LC Series is Sharp's most consumer friendly line of LCD TVs and feature standardized inputs and very basic contrast and black levels. Most sets in the LC series feature a standard HD ratio of 1080i, and have at least one HDMI and S-Video Input in addition to composite and component inputs. These sets are great for those who enjoy high definition media, but do not need multiple inputs or high contrast ratios. They range in size from a petite 19 inches to 27 inches and range in cost from $300 for the smallest LCD TV to about $1300 for the largest.

    Aquos Series

    • The Aquos series of LCD TVs is Sharp's best-selling and most lucrative series of TVs. They feature a much higher contrast ratio than the regular LCD TVs, and feature deeper black levels. The Aquos brand of TVs also feature a "Aquos Advantage" program that gives Aquos owners access to exclusive sales and warranties. The Aquos brand of sets range in size from 19 inches to the oversize 64 inch model. They range in price from $500 for small sets to about $4,000.

    Limited Edition Aquos

    • The Aquos brand also features a line of limited edition sets that are thinner and more expensive than the regular Aquos. Although the technical specs are nearly identical, the shape of the limited edition Aquos LCD TVs make them less susceptible to blur. The limited edition Aquos are also available in much larger sizes than the regular Aquos. The limited edition Aquos range in size from 52 to 65 inches and prices run between $4,000 and $15,000.

    Choosing a Set

    • When trying to choose a set from the Sharp family of LCD TVs, consider two things: price and functionality. The LC series is the most cost-efficient line of TVs, and is good if you are looking for a TV to watch DVDs or play Video Games on. The Aquos series is more expensive, but if picture quality really matters to you then it might be worth the price. The Aquos advantage program is also a nice incentive to buy one of these higher-end sets, especially if you are planning on buying another set in the near future. The limited edition line of Aquos TVs do not offer much more than the regular Aquos sets in terms of functionality, but their unique construction allows for greater clarity, and their ultra-thin display will certainly impress visitors.

The Future of Sharp LCD TVs

    • In the coming years Sharp has announced plans to expand both their LC series as well as their Aquos series. The most anticipated new series of LCD TVs from Sharp is the Aquos Vision series, which features an even slimmer design than the Aquos Limited Edition and multi-wavelength backlighting, which reduces blurring and sharpens contrast. The Vision series does not have a firm release date yet, although many anticipate a late 2009 or early 2010 launch in North America.
