Chile's copyright laws provide legal definition and protection around instances of copyright infringement. As the laws are expanded and enforced Chileans are provided greater protection against piracy, particularly in the music and technological domains.

Law number 19.799 recognizes and speaks to electronic contracts. The law specifically deals with electronic contract signatures, certification services and related duties and liabilities.

      Domain Names

      • Copyright related to domain names deals with music used in advertisements, musical adaptations such as television, major motion pictures and Internet property. The Protection of the Denominations of Origin and its Registry provides legal protection for copyrighted Chilean domain names in the international arena. In this regard, the International office of the OMPI fills the role of the organization administrator and receives and responds to copyright request for domain names.
