The company provides internship and scholarship opportunities and has management jobs and on-the-road positions. Its diverse employee base may be one of the reasons FedEx was ranked as the top customer service provider by the Harris Interactive Reputation Quotient in 2008. Career Opportunities
-
Most FedEx jobs fall under the following categories: internal support, human resources, information technology, engineering, package handling, communications, marketing, operations, sales and courier. Not all positions involve working out of corporate FedEx offices.
Courier Qualifications
-
The courier job is one of the largest career opportunities at FedEx. But delivering packages to and from customers requires a specific set of skills, including the ability to lift 70 pounds and maneuver 150 pounds. You also must have a firm knowledge of a city's geography. Couriers must also wear the FedEx uniform, have great interpersonal skills and have a valid driver's license. Delivery drivers must have the same skills as a courier but must also undergo a background check and have a minimum of six months' experience driving commercial trucks.
Independent Contractor
-
FedEx offers three positions for independent contractors. Owner-operators own delivery vehicles and drive for FedEx through its Custom Critical program. The Ground Independent Contractor and Home Delivery Independent Contractor programs allow individuals to start their own FedEx branches or delivery services.
Corporate
-
Aside from the driver, courier, sales, engineering and package-handling jobs, most careers at FedEx are in the corporate sector. Full-time corporate employees receive medical and health benefits, along with stock options. These careers include supervisor, technology services consultant, human resources manager and corporate communications consultant. Most corporate positions at FedEx require a four-year bachelor's degree in a field that is directly related to the position, such as business, management, economics, public relations, marketing or computer science. In addition to a four-year degree, most non-entry level positions also require previous work experience. FedEx recommends that candidates applying for non-entry level positions, such as senior manager or director of corporate communications, obtain at least four years of work force experience within their given fields. A knowledge of computers and excellent time management and communications skills are also emphasized in most corporate positions.
