Ford Cars, Trucks & SUVs

The Ford Motor Company was the first car company ever created, launching its first factory in 1903. They still remain as a major force in creating cars today, with models selling not just in the United States but all over the world. Learn more about some of the cars, trucks, and Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) that Ford has to offer.

  1. Cars

    • Ford currently makes four different cars under their moniker: Focus, Fusion, Taurus and Mustang. The Ford Focus is a compact model that replaced the Ford Escort in 2005. Over 170,000 units of the 2005 model were sold in 2007, according to Ford's media reports. The first models introduced in 1999 came in coupe, sedan, hatchback and wagon versions. The 2010 models will not feature hatchback or wagon versions. The Ford Mustang is arguably one of the most popular American cars today. The Mustang has been produced every year since 1964 as a performance-oriented vehicle. There were over 1 million models produced in its first 18 months. Mustangs are relatively compact in size and have been through five different generations of basic design. Several design variants of the Mustang also exist, such as the Shelby, Saleen and Roush

    Trucks

    • Ford Pickup trucks include the F-150, 250, 350, 450 and Ford Ranger. The F-150 is considered one of the best selling vehicles in the United States, with the first versions appearing in 1948. F-150s built between 2004 and 2008 featured 5-star safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2007 F-150 models had a towing capacity of 11,000 lbs. Motor Trend, a popular vehicle magazine, named the 2004 model its Truck of the Year.

    SUVs

    • Ford's SUV line includes the Expedition, Explorer and Escape. The Ford Escape is the first full-sized SUV that is available as a hybrid, getting 34 miles per gallon in the city. The engine is a gas-electric combination that automatically switches to the most efficient combination of power sources depending on the need and load. Sales of the Escape Hybrid increased from 18,000 units in 2005 to 21,000 in 2007.

    Other Brands

    • The Ford Motor Company also owns and markets other car brands. Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda and Volvo cars are also sold by Ford. Volvo cars were acquired in 1999 and sold over 400,000 units in the following year.

    NASCAR

    • Ford also competes in the NASCAR racing series. In 2006, Ford used the Fusion as the base model of its stock racing car, replacing the previously-used Taurus model. The 2006 racer boasted 800 horse power, four times that of the street version.
