About Palm TX

The personal digital assistant, more commonly referred to as the PDA, is a handheld device that was all the rage before similar technology became available on cell phones. One of the major sellers is the Palm TX, released by Palm Inc. in 2005. It is sold to this day and offers users a host of different features.

  1. Identification

    • The Palm TX looks like most of the other PDAs on the market, but still can be easy to identify if you know what you are looking for. The body of this particular PDA is rectangular, with sleek and smooth edges. It is black in color, with a main silver button on the lower end of the PDA, used to cycle through information on the screen. The screen takes up most of the front face of the PDA, and underneath it are all the buttons necessary to operate it.

    Hardware

    • The Palm TX has a number of beneficial hardware components that makes it superior to previous Palm models and many other PDAs on the market. First is its WiFi capability. The WiFi for the Palm TX is built in, with an antenna inside of the body of the PDA. The Palm TX is also Bluetooth enabled. This allows it to download , receive and send files without having to use any cables or cords. As far as memory is concerned, the Palm TX has 32 MB of RAM and 128 MB of Flash memory.

    Software

    • The Palm TX runs the software program Palm OS Garnet 5.4.9. It is known to be more stable and reliable than past versions of the operating system. Some of the software that is included in the Palm TX is a personal email client, a client for Microsoft Exchange, and the Blazer v4 web browser. This PDA also has its own media player and its own Adobe Reader software, which is included as standard.

    Future

    • The Palm TX marked the end of the Palm line of PDAs. While it can still be found for sale, it is no longer directly for sale from Palm Inc. The reason for this is because all of the capabilities of the PDA can now be included in the Palm line of smartphones. Now that cell phone and PDA technology have merged, there is really no reason to have to sell a PDA separately. The device that has replaced the Palm TX is the Palm Centro smartphone.

    Battery

    • The biggest problem that people seem to have with the Palm TX relates to its battery. While it is completely rechargeable with the correct cord, it cannot be replaced manually. Sometimes, battery problems occur. Being able to access and replace the battery would make this a near perfect PDA. As it stands, the battery for a Palm TX can only be replaced by the manufacturer.
