Copyright Laws in Egypt
The copyright laws in Egypt are part of the Law Number 82 of 2002, effectively repealing three earlier copyright laws and property rights. To be specific, the copyrights that extend to many works are contained in the Part III of the law. Article 141 of the law covers the limits of protection.

The copyrights laws of Egypt is covered under Law Number 82 of 2002, a law created by the country's People's Assembly that covers the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights. The creation of this new law by the assembly of the country effectively repealed three laws related to copyrights and property rights. The laws that are repealed by Law Number 82 include the Law Number 57 of 1939, the Law Number 132 of 1949 and the Law Number 354 of 1954. With the introduction of the new law, these three laws have been repealed.

The specific copyright law of Egypt is defined in the Part III of the Law and this is known as the Copyrights and Neighboring Rights. The many terms that are related to the copyright laws are discussed in Article 138 of the said law. Article 139 of the said law tackles the personalities that will be covered by the copyright laws and based on Article 139, the personalities that will be covered by the law includes Egyptians and foreigners, whether they are natural or juridical persons that belong to the member states of the World Trade Organization. Article 140 of Chapter III lists the works that will be covered by the copyright laws.

Coverage

The lists of works that are covered by the copyright laws include books, articles and written works. The copyright laws cover computer software, databases, lectures, speeches and recorded sermons. The law also covers dramatic works, musical works, audio-visual works, architectural works, paintings and similar arts, photographic works and works relating to applied arts and plastic arts. Other author works that are covered include illustrations, maps and derivative works.
Scope of Protection

The protection that is given under the law will include the title of the work. Article 141 talks about the protection and the limits of protection. The protection will not include the ideas, procedures, the method of process, the manners of operations, the concepts, the principles and data even if these things are expressed and included in the said work. The section of the Law further defines the two kinds of protections that are not included by Egyptian copyright laws.
The protection is not extended to official documents which will include legal texts, regulations, decisions and international agreements. This will not also cover the judicial rulings, the arbitrary awards and the judgments that are issued by the administrative committees of judicial competence. And the protection does not include the news of incidents and current events.
Considerations

These things will be protected by the copyright laws if these works are characterized by innovation in order, in display or by any efforts to make these works eligible for copyright protection. Authors of work that have been subjected to infringement can ask the First Instance Court to issue a ruling that will effectively stop the circulation of the infringed works. The ruling will also withdraw the targeted works from circulation.
