Home Remedies for Hair Damage

You have done everything to your hair but dye it purple. You have permed, relaxed, bleached, dyed and teased your hair to an inch of its life. Now it resembles a dried-out bramble bush. Short of cutting it off and starting all over there are some home remedies for damaged hair that may save your locks. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Mayonnaise

    • Get the mayonnaise out of your refrigerator and be prepared to go to battle with your hair. Slather the mayonnaise on your head, covering your hair, for fifteen minutes. Then wash it out. You can actually sleep with it in your hair all night (make sure your hair is covered with something), according to Damagedhair.net. Your hair should be softer and shinier after using this technique.
Another solution for dry and damaged hair is to mix together eggs and honey and apply this concoction to your hair. Leave it on for ten minutes and wash it out.

    Suntan Oil

    • Put coconut suntan oil in your hair and let it set for a while before rinsing it out. This not only reportedly works as a conditioner but will also make your hair smell good. The morning after you have used the suntan oil on your hair, wash your hair in regular shampoo to get rid of any excess greasiness.

    Avocado

    • Avocados are vitamin and protein rich and also contain essential fatty acids. Peel and mash up an avocado and mix it with some olive oil. Apply this to your hair. Leave it on for fifteen minutes or so and wash it out.

    Beer

    • Put some beer into a spray bottle and spritz it onto your hair after you're shampooed and towel dried your hair. This is the advice of Steven Docherty, who is the senior art director of NYC's Vidal Sassoon Salon. Docherty says your hair won't smell as the beer smell quickly dissipates. And the brew is a wonderful setting lotion.

    Carrots, Honey and Eggs

    • Go back into your kitchen on a search and seizure mission for more products to be used to correct your damaged hair. Grannymed.com suggests that you grind three carrots. Put them in a jar and add some olive oil. Then let the concoction rest in the refrigerator for three weeks and apply it to your hair. After a few minutes, rinse your hair in clear water. Mix together one egg yolk, 1 tbsp. each of lemon juice, honey and olive oil. Smear this on your scalp, massaging it in. Then rinse it out.

    Oily Hair

    • Apply 1 tbsp. of cider vinegar to your hair. Rub it through and then rinse it out. According to Essortment.com this is a good way to eliminate excess oil from your locks.

    Blond Hair

    • Combine lemon juice with warm water and using it to rinse your blond hair. Work it into your hair and then rinse with clear water. The lemon juice will make your blond hair shinier and brighter. Another technique for blonds whose hair needs a boost is combining plain yogurt with five drops of lavender oil and add this to chamomile water. You will need approximately six chamomile tea bags, which you steep in hot water. Stir the chamomile, yogurt and lavender mixture and then put it on your dry hair. Wrap your hair in plastic for approximately twenty minutes and then rinse out and shampoo. This will brighten dull blond hair.
