Software programmers and applications developer are two other terms for computer programmers. These two jobs are slightly different, with software programmers being involved in the development phase of software building only. Applications developers typically are involved in the entire process from planning through debugging and updates. Technically speaking, a degree is not required to be a computer programmer. You simply need to know how to write code and how to work with client requirements. Computer programming is not something just anyone can do. This field is built on logic and basic mathematical modeling. If you have problems with logic statements or word problems, chances are you would neither enjoy nor do a good job as a programmer. The lucrative pay often encourages people seeking a high-paying field to consider computer programming, but the field requires a complex understanding of heavy concepts for success. The best programmers also will work to keep their skills current, meaning you will need to keep up with the literature in the field and be willing to expand your knowledge constantly.

Computer programmers save companies money. Their purpose is to make systems more efficient. If a company takes 6 weeks to process claims manually, a software development team often can cut that time down to just days using software to do the job. Without computer programmers, many daily tasks wouldn't be accomplished.
