How do you spice up an otherwise traditional party? Add some salsa! Salsa theme parties bring out the fun in any attendee. But if you are a novice, you need to know what makes a great party.

Music and Dancing

The first thing to consider is the music. The right ambiance will set up your party for success from the start. Consider hiring a salsa instructor to drop by and give a lesson or two before the party heats up.
Hire a DJ so you can relax and have fun. If that's not an option, turn up your best salsa CDs. Most retailers have a dance music section, which is a great location to find the perfect tunes if you don't have them in your personal collection. Once the music is pumping, get your guests jumping on the dance floor.

Space and Décor

Consider the number of people coming to the party, and provide enough space for them to move. Salsa dancing will require much more space. An outdoor patio is a great option if the weather is warm. Otherwise, use a large room indoors and move furniture out with the exception of a few chairs for seating. Decorate the space in vibrant color with special lighting and beautiful crepe paper designs on the wall.

Attire

Salsa dance wear isn't complicated. For the ladies, choose a blouse or skirt with plenty of movement. It can be a long or short dress or skirt, but it's got to have movement to flow with you as you dance. For the guys, buttoned shirts open at the top is the only stipulation.

Food

Give your menu that Latin flair. Finger foods are the best thing for a dance party. You don't want guests searching for a knife and fork between rumbas. Choose foods such as quesadillas, nachos, tamales--and chips and salsa, of course.

Drinks

Some great drink options for the perfect salsa party are margaritas and corona. Keep in mind non-alcoholic choices as well. Sodas and tropical juices will fit nicely with your theme.
