About Pool Noodles

If you're looking for more fun and games for your playtime in the pool, floating pool noodles may be a great addition to your collection of pool accessories. Sword fighting, swimming through obstacle courses, floating on a pool lounge, rafting, and squirt gun fighting are just a few of the activities you can enjoy with these floating noodles. Pool noodles are an inexpensive way to generate good times in the pool.

  1. Description

    • The most common swimming pool noodles are composed of closed cell foam, but there are also some inflatable pool noodles. The foam pool noodles are long, cylindrical, sometimes hollow tubes. These tubes are flexible, but still stiff enough that they aren't flimsy. Pool noodles have a variety of uses, and range in price from $1 to $3.

    Types

    • Pool noodles come in sizes ranging from 3 to 6 inches in diameter, and 5 to 6 feet long. However, the size does vary, and some people choose to cut them into shorter pieces for other uses. Usually pool noodles have a hole through the center, but sometimes they do not. Pool noodles can be found in a variety of colors.

    Accessories

    • Noodle connectors can be used to create different larger structures out of your pool noodles. You can use connectors that have two holes, four holes, or even six holes to create whatever your imagination dreams up. Use the connectors to build a chair, obstacle course, raft, you name it. Noodle sleeves can be used to make rings, and other creations with pool noodles. The sleeves are like 4-inch noodles that are completely hollowed out. You simply stick the ends of the noodles into the sleeves to add some flare to your fun in the pool.

    Uses

    • Pool noodles can be used to simply float around the pool for relaxation, or to play around in the swimming pool. Some people use them for certain types of exercise in the pool. The noodles can also be helpful in the process of learning how to swim.
Some children enjoy using pool noodles as "weapons." Children will often use them to sword fight or simply hit each other, and because they are foam they aren't harmful. Another way you can use a noodle is to straddle it like you're riding a horse. If you have a hollow noodle, hold the noodle underwater to fill it up with water. Then, put your mouth at one end and point the other end at someone, and blow through the noodle to spray the water at them. You can even cut a small piece off of a noodle to create a headrest for use in the spa. Cut about a 6-inch piece off of the end of a noodle, and then slice through lengthwise into the middle of the noodle. Now you can clamp the noodle on the side of the spa, and rest your head for even more relaxation.

    Storage

    • Pool noodles can often end up strewn around the pool while not in use. Eventually the noodles can become worn or damaged from this treatment, especially if you have pets that may think the noodles are big chew toys. Not only that, but the scattered noodles can lead to injuries from slips and falls. So, perhaps you should consider buying a pool noodle holder or rack. This will keep your noodles and pool area organized, and prevent injuries. The racks are lightweight, usually made of the same foam material as pool noodles, and typically attach to a fence or a wall.
