About Color-Themed Christmas Trees
Aside from the important spiritual aspects, Christmas has always been about long-standing decorating traditions. The centerpiece of this holiday is the Christmas tree. The Christmas tree is a snapshot of the celebration and brings out an abundance of memories. Just as extended family members add special significance with new ornaments, there are also ways to re-imagine what is considered to be the traditional Christmas tree. A color-themed tree can add a fresh sparkle to your holiday customs. Does this Spark an idea?

Pick a Color
-
Burl Ives had it right when he sang that "silver and gold mean so much more when seen on every Christmas tree." Along with those two shiny examples, red, blue, white and green are also considered to be traditional Christmas colors. Picking the color for your themed tree will have a lot to do with how you plan on decorating. Staying within those classic color palates will provide you with a vast array of ornament and light choices. Of course, no matter which color you choose, make sure it doesn't clash with the rest of your house.
Fake or Real
-
Once you have settled on your color theme you'll be faced with the next choice of tree selection---whether to get a real or fake tree. Selecting a real tree can be a fun family outing, especially if you can cut down your own. However, opting for an artificial tree affords you with no maintenance. The current crop of artificial trees have become extremely sophisticated in look and texture. The only thing missing from them is that genuine pine aroma.

Out-of-the-Box Decorating
-
If you decide to go the artificial route for your tree, there are a whole host of options that can fit into whatever color theme you choose. Artificial trees come in pink, red, white, blue and even purple branch varieties. Once decorated, these colorful trees will certainly make a bold statement. You can even go one step further with an upside-down colored tree. Your only limitations are how far out of the box you want to go.
LIGHTS
-
No Christmas tree would be complete without the addition of lights. Matching your lights to a single color-theme tree is not difficult. All white lights are a good option for any color scheme. If you want to use your particular color to coordinate your lights then go for the screw-in variety versus the clip on. This way you'll be able to swap out your lights easily to maintain your color scheme.
Ornaments
-
If you stick with a single color-theme tree you might have to forgo the ornaments in your collection, as they could throw off the color scheme. Bows, balls and garland can all be found in whatever traditional holiday color you pick. With a bit of hunting you can augment those choices with a varieity of ornaments. For instance, if you go with a red tree, most Santa ornaments will look great with their classic red suits.
Tree Skirt
-
To finish off your decorating, consider wrapping a skirt around the bottom of your tree. This could be as simple as buying fabric that matches your color-theme and draping it around the base. At holiday shops, you might be able to find embroidered and decorated tree skirts that match your chosen color. Of course there is also the option of creating your own tree skirt as a family arts and craft project.
New Traditions
-
Mixing up your holiday decoration traditions is a sure way to create new Christmas memories. As the years go on, you can continue to rotate the colors so that every Christmas can be full of new visual experiences. Next year could be all red and the following year all white. You also don't have to stop with one tree. There is no reason why you can't have multiple color-theme Christmas trees throughout the house.
