Adverse Effects of Reishi Ganoderma

Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma Lucidum) have been used in China as herbal medicines for over two thousand years. In the Western world, Reishi Ganoderma is also starting to catch on as a herbal remedy. Reishi Ganoderma is believed to have many valuable health benefits and is commonly used to treat conditions and disorders like insomnia, neuroses resulting from environmental stress factors and even Alzheimer's disease. However, as with any medication, many people report experiencing adverse effects.

  1. Common Side Effects

    • Some common negative side effects from people who have taken Reishi Ganoderma for medicinal purposes include dizziness, feelings of being lightheaded, dry throat, dry mouth, nosebleeds and abdominal upset. However, not all people will experience these symptoms.

    Theories/Speculation

    • Many people also consider Reishi Ganoderma to be a superior herb (as stated in clinical studies and classical literature), and as a result of that, believe that it has no adverse effects. Superior herbs are known to be 100 percent nontoxic and completely safe to consume in large amounts and quantities, according to the book "The Great Pharmacopoeia" by Shi-Jean Lee, a Chinese medical doctor.

    Detoxification Symptoms

    • Some people who take Reishi Ganoderma (especially sensitive individuals) might experience some mild detoxification side effects. These adverse effects generally occur toward the beginning of intake and include mild digestive upset, sore muscles, skin rashes and dizziness. However, these are normal signs and generally indicate that the Reishi Ganoderma is functioning well and doing its job.

    Contraindications

    • There are no reported contraindications for Reishi Ganoderma, based on over two thousand years of observation (according to The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine). This is because Reishi Ganoderma is an all-natural health supplement. However, Reishi Ganoderma (and other immunomodulating substances) should be taken with caution for people using immunosuppressive drugs or going through organ transplants.

    Age Groups

    • In general, all age groups respond similarly to Reishi Ganoderma as a medication option (do not give to children or teenagers). There are no more adverse reactions reported in one age group over another. However, before taking Reishi Ganoderma as a herbal medication, consult a qualified medical health professional regarding your potential use.
