- In a society where a slender figure is considered attractive, it is not uncommon for a bride to want to appear noticeably slimmer on her big day. After all, she will want to look her best for the photos and videos she and others will view even years later. Going on a diet is one of the ways she may lose an evident amount of weight for her nuptials. Because the bridesmaids and mothers of both the bride and groom are also highly visible during a wedding, it is not unheard of for any one of them to go on a diet as well.

Once you have set a date for your wedding or have accepted a spot as a member of the wedding party, put a healthy diet plan into practice as early as possible. This is a preventive measure that keeps you from going on a potentially dangerous crash diet later. Starvation diets are especially unhealthy and should be avoided. Popular diets that others have tried include the Atkins Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Sonoma Diet and the Zone Diet. If you have a history of health issues or concerns, consult your nutritionist to find the diet that best suits you.
An alternative to counting calories if you find such a method tedious is to simply shift to more healthful foods. You may, for example, switch to an organic, vegetarian, vegan, raw food or macrobiotic diet. - A healthy diet, combined with the exercise regimen best suited to your lifestyle and needs, is a sound plan of action whether or not there is a wedding on your calendar. However, regardless of your best efforts, you may still not be as thin as you wish you could be on your wedding day; if you have a pear shape or hourglass figure, for instance, you may appear curvier than someone with a boyish frame or an athletic body type even at your fittest. One way a bride or other member of the wedding party can make the most of her shape--whether she is slender or curvaceous--is to wear a dress that is cut to especially flatter her figure (see Resources). Also make sure to coordinate all the elements of your appearance, such as your hair, makeup and accessories, to look your most attractive and bring the focus to features other than your figure.
- There is no need to stress if you don't lose the last 5 lb. you were hoping to. Having a fuller figure does not mean you cannot look stunning in a form-skimming dress. In any case, you can make use of figure shaping undergarments, which are more comfortable today than they were in your grandmother's era. These are girdles for the areas of your body that you may want to smooth out underneath your wedding gown or formal dress, such as your hips and anywhere your bra pinches, causing flab to bunch up. Even a curvaceous or plus-size woman can flatten her belly and eliminate the appearance of unflattering lumps and bumps all over with the help of this beauty secret commonly worn underneath designer gowns in Hollywood (see Resources).
- Avoid the experience of feeling weak or actually fainting on your wedding day by not skipping meals despite how busy the day gets. Even if you are dieting and want your dress to fit perfectly on your big day, eat small, healthful meals. You can even appoint your maid of honor or one of your bridesmaids to be in charge of preparing your food. It is also important to stay hydrated. Drink water liberally throughout the day to help you look and feel refreshed; do not scrimp on water despite fears of appearing bloated.
