  1. What Is It?

    • The Snap-on Scanner is a mini computer that connects to a car's engine control unit. It is used to diagnose auto problems. A car puts out a code from one of its sensors when it detects something wrong, the only way to know what that code is, is by a code reader like a Snap-on Scanner. Once connected to the car via a special plug usually under the dash, you would be able to "read" the code and diagnose the problem.

    What Do Codes Mean?

    • Codes are generated from the automobile's sensor when a fault is detected, usually when this happens a "check engine" light turns on to let you know that something is wrong in the engine. There are many different codes, and different meanings for each make and model of a car. The Snap-on Scanner does have full technical help included for the codes you wouldn't know. Usually, most of the time you can find what a code means in the Chilton, or Haynes manual, but with this tool, the descriptions are built in.

    Does it Do Anything Else?

    • Yes, it can also read live data from the cars systems including, airbag, ABS and transmission information.

Can This Connect to the Computer?

    • Yes, the Snap-on Scanner comes with computer CDs that you can install into the computer. You can connect the Snap-on Scanner to analyze the data and information further.

How Does it Connect to All Makes and Models?

    • Different cables that are included connect to the different ports in the automobile. It really is an all around multi-compatible machine.
