About "Halo 3"

One of the most popular video game franchises of all time has been the Halo series. Every version of the game has sold out stores and provided Microsoft with a popular franchise for their Xbox video game systems. The third installment in the series, titled "Halo 3," was released on Xbox 360 and helped sell that system and propel Halo into pop culture history.

Features

Halo 3 is the concluding saga of the Halo story. This story follows a war between the United Nations Space Command and the Covenant. The hero of story is Master Chief, who visits different maps and helps battle these alien forces. Players take control of Master Chief throughout the game and use his vehicles and weapons to travel. There are nine levels to compete throughout the game, which can be done alone, with a partner or through a Xbox Live connection.

Function

The game is of the first person shooter variety, meaning that the player is assuming the role of Master Chief and whatever the Chief sees, the player sees. The single player mode is known as the campaign mode, but the multi-player mode is one of the most popular things about Halo 3. Players battle each other in a variety of levels and can even edit together their own maps in the Halo 3 universe to play each other.

Xbox Live

Xbox Live is an essential part of Halo 3 because it is how players connect to each other and play online. Through this service, players can contact specific friends to play the game, or be randomly assigned to a map to play. Play can be conducted in a free for all format or assigned to teams. "Slayer" is the most popular version of the game and is a death match where one player or teams tries to get as many kills as possible. "Capture the Flag" is another popular multi-player game on Xbox Live. Xbox Live is also used to download new game content, updates and maps for Halo 3.

Types

Halo 3 was released in three different versions. The standard version is simply known as Halo 3 and features the disc, manual and a mini-poster of maps and controls. The Limited Edition comes in a metal case and features the game, manual, poster, a book and an exclusive bonus DVD. The Legendary edition comes with everything in the Limited Edition plus a cardboard poster and a replica Master Chief helmet that holds all of the discs that come with the game.

Significance

Until the release of Grand Theft Auto IV, Halo 3 was the fastest-selling video game of all time. It has sold over eight million copies, in addition to millions of sales worldwide as well. The release created the largest amount of players on Xbox Live at one time, and millions of players still continue to connect and play the game on it today.
