Making your own gift baskets to hand out to family and friends is a great way to personalize gift-giving. It is a lot of fun to gather your supplies for the baskets. Everything is custom-made, from the style and size of the basket, to colors and themes, to the items that you decide to include. The basic supplies are fairly inexpensive but give an impression being costly. They are ecofriendly as well, because of their reuse value.

    Identification

  1. Gift baskets are made up of smaller gift items. Because there are many sizes of baskets to choose from, there can be a small number of items in your basket or a very plentiful basket with a large number of items. Gift baskets can be given for any occasion. Supplies used for these baskets depend on what kind of basket it is, and packing supplies include ribbons and plastic wrap (see Types).
  2. Function

  3. Give a personalized and impressive looking gift made up of themed smaller gifts. Gift baskets are aesthetically pleasing, as the items are arranged neatly and creatively, much like one would arrange a bouquet of flowers. The basket can be reused, which makes it an ecofriendly way to package a gift.
  4. Types

  5. There are many themes for baskets. Some of the more traditional baskets can include different cheeses and sausages, candy, coffee, tea, coffee and tea products (tea strainer, mug, coffee maker, tea pot), nuts, chocolates, pretzels and cookies. Traditional gift baskets usually have a mixture of foods. Some baskets have a wine and cheese theme and usually include crackers, fruit preserves and even a cheese board or cheese knives. There are more nontraditional gift baskets, such as those for kids that usually follow a boy or girl theme, or the theme of a favorite character. These can include toys, coloring and activity books, crayons, markers, paints, Play-Doh and anything else that you could think of for a child. There are no limits on themes or items for your basket.
A packaging supply that is commonly used is plastic wrap, to encompass all of the gifts within the basket and to ensure that they do not fall out. Shrink wrap is a way to secure the items. The plastic can come in different colors; clear types are usually used to showcase the contents of the gifts. Ribbons or bows are used as a decorative element, and often tie the plastic together at the top.
Other supplies that are commonly used are shredded colorful paper and sometimes tissue paper.
The basket can be of any type. Usually a tan or beige woven basket with a handle is used (think of an Easter basket). Very large hamper-size baskets can be used to contain large items, and tiny boxed baskets can contain very small items.
  6. Potential

  7. You can use recycled wrapping paper for the shredded paper as an ecofriendly filling. Plastic laundry baskets are a great idea for a housewarming basket. If your gift includes DVDs and movie tickets, use a popcorn bucket for a basket.
  8. Benefits

  9. There are many benefits in giving a gift basket instead of a regular one-item gift. A basket is personal and shows the recipient how much time you spent thinking of them. There are few limitations to baskets. Gift baskets are usually more ecofriendly as the basket and shredded paper can be reused. Gift baskets are generally inexpensive to make. Many items can be found at a dollar store. You can also include handmade and sentimental items. This is a great gift idea for someone on a budget.
