About Couch Recovering
Most of us have a couch that we just love and can't seem to part with. It may still be sturdy and usable, but it may also look like it's been through the wringer. Luckily, there are some inexpensive ways to fix your couch, including couch recovering. Does this Spark an idea?

Function
-
The main function of couch recovering is to cover up an old or damaged couch or to give the couch a new look. However, couch recovering may also be a way to make your favorite couch match the new décor of your room or a new home. If you are looking to remodel your home and are on a limited budget, couch recovering is a more cost-efficient option than buying a new one.
Types
-
There are a few ways to recover a couch. You can buy the materials and do it yourself or you can take the easy route and buy a one-size-fits-all type of slipcover or a slipcover that comes in sections. Do-it-yourself slipcovers tend to be a little pricier but a lot of fun. You can purchase most fabric or upholstery fabric at places such as Joann's or Wal-Mart. Depending on where your couch is and how often it's used will determine the quality of fabric you should purchase. If you're really creative, you can make a couch cover from sheets or T-shirt material. Fitted and sectioned couch covers are easier to use, come in a variety of colors and designs, and are interchangeable. Sectioned couch covers are more user-friendly because they usually stay on the couch whereas fitted couch covers tend to slip and pull out.

Cost
-
The cost of recovering your couch really depends on how big it is and what type of material is used. If you chose to do it yourself, you are looking at spending around $20 a yard for upholstery fabric and you'll usually need around 15 yards. However, you can use cheaper types of fabric or shop around for discount upholstery fabric to save money. The more economical way of recovering your couch is to purchase a fitted or sectional-type slipcover. For a loveseat, a slipcover can run from $30 to $60 depending on the fabric and style. For a bigger couch, slipcovers can range from $70 to $200 and they come in all kinds of styles.
Size
-
Because couches come in all sizes, you will need to make sure you measure twice before you make that final purchase. If you plan on making your own, it's always best to buy extra fabric rather than "just enough." In terms of measurements, loveseats are usually from 40 to 73 inches, couches are usually 74 to 96 inches and chairs are about 32 to 40 inches. The best way to measure the couch or loveseat is to measure the three sections of the couch or loveseat. You will measure from arm to arm, the maximum body width and the maximum seat cushion width. This works for all types of couch-recovering styles.
Materials
-
If you do plan on recovering your couch yourself, you'll only need a few things. Money, of course, is the main thing as making your own couch cover can be quite expensive. Also, a stapler, upholstery or other type of fabric, a sturdy metal ruler, and an instructional book and patience will all come in handy when doing couch recovering yourself!
