About Storage Building Design
Small businesses use storage units to hold inventory. Individuals use storage buildings to hold their personal items in the process of a move or transition. How these storage buildings are designed is very important to how the business is perceived, and the satisfaction level of customers. There are several factors that storage company owners must consider when designing their buildings.
-
Design and Usability
-
When planning a storage building design, there are a variety of factors to consider. For one, you have to decide what will be the final color scheme for the storage building. Many storage companies have a predetermined company branding that the building would have to match. A lot of storage companies choose bright, bold colors to design their storage units. For example, Public Storage, a major storage company, is known for its purple and orange color scheme and corresponding storage units.
Also, the public storage company owner must decide how to design the storage building to best accommodate customers. Since most storage buildings cover a large area of land, customers will have to be able to easily navigate the property in order to get to their units. So instead of one continuous building, the storage company many want to design the lot so that there are several individual storage buildings. Passageways also have to be designed to allow for easy access, and the company has to assure that large trucks will be able to navigate the lot.
Security
-
One major concern that will probably be on the mind of a storage company owner when constructing a new storage building is security. How will the structure assure that their customers' items will be safe from break in? Many storage company owners decide to provide an extra layer of protection for their storage units with a fence or wall that is protected by a security system. If you are a customer at one of these units, you will be required to enter a special code to be admitted, in addition to having the key to your unit.
Storage Units Designed With One Floor
-
If you'll notice, most storage buildings are designed as one floor units. Being that many storage customers will be loading large amounts of goods into their storage units they will not want to have to scale stairs or fit large items into elevators in order to move. Imagine having to move a heavy bureau down flights of stairs at an apartment building and then having to traverse another set of stairs at the unloading point. For this reason, many storage building designing plans require a very large lot of land.
Climate Control
-
Climate control is a major consideration for many storage customers. Some items will not survive in certain extreme temperature conditions. So many storage company owners will design climate controlled units, meaning that in the case of severely hot or cold weather, there is heat or air conditioning to maintain the temperature at a certain level. So a storage building will have to be designed based on whether the owner wants to provide climate control to customers. In this case, the building will have to be equipped with central air conditioning and heating units.
Considerations
-
All in all, the storage building design is highly dependent on the requirements of the customers that the storage company is trying to attract. Assuming that the storage rates are reasonable, customers will likely continue to store items at a storage location that is designed with their specific needs regarding maneuverability and security of valuables in mind.
