About Affiliate Marketers
Many strive to make money on the Internet, and one bona fide way to make money online is to become an affiliate marketer. While affiliate marketing probably won't make you rich, it's a viable way to make money if you're willing to put in the time and the effort that is required.

Definition
-
Affiliate marketers are individuals who promote other entrepreneurs' or companies' products. For every product that is sold via the affiliate marketer's link, the affiliate marketer receives a commission, generally anywhere from 50 to 100 percent of the product's purchase price. Affiliate marketers can find products to promote via Clickbank, Commission Junction or by going to the product owner's website. Many companies, such as Amazon.com, also have their own affiliate programs through which you can earn a commission on every sale that is made through your affiliate link. The affiliate program owner may provide his affiliates with a sales page, banners for advertising and other promotional tools to make it easier for affiliate marketers to promote his product.
Benefits
-
You don't have to invest a large amount of money to get started as an affiliate marketer. You will need a domain name and a web host, but you can purchase both for a relatively low price. There are also numerous marketing methods, including article marketing and blogging, that will allow you to promote your affiliate products for free.
As an affiliate marketer, you work for yourself, deciding what products to promote and how much effort to put into that promotion. You don't have to be available when customers decide to purchase the product. They can buy directly from your website 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, regardless if you are online.

Misconceptions
-
The biggest misconceptions about affiliate marketing are that it is easy and promises instant cash. Many think you simply sign up to promote a product, put up a web page with some content about that product and wait for the money to start pouring in. Affiliate marketing can be a viable source of income, but it takes time and a lot of work. To make steady money as an affiliate marketer, you must actively promote your affiliate product(s), which you can do by article marketing, forum marketing, placing banner advertisements, blogging and engaging in social networking, such as using Twitter and Digg.
Considerations
-
One of the most important decisions you must make as an affiliate marketer is choosing what products to promote. Choose a product in a niche in which you are interested, which will make it much easier for you to promote the product. Ask the product owner for a copy of the product to review before you sign up as an affiliate.
Opt for a product that offers a commission of at least 50 percent. There are products that also offer 80 percent commission or higher, but there are typically a lot more affiliate marketers marketing such products. Choose a product that is being marketed by other affiliates but not so many that the market is already saturated.
Finally, the product you choose should somehow answer a question or solve a problem your target market has. Research to find out for what you information your target marketing is looking.
Warning
-
If you decide to become an affiliate marketer, be cautious about the products you promote. If the product owner doesn't provide specific information about commissions, including the amount and how often you will be paid, find another affiliate opportunity. Never pay to become an affiliate.
Always try to contact the product owner, so you can review the product before you promote it. The last thing you want to do is hurt your credibility by promoting a product that is unethical, illegal or just isn't very good.
