Basic Stamp Programming

BASIC is a program language that you will likely need in order to program a stamp. These stamps are important devices that are used in cars, digital clocks, and various other electronic devices. With this coding, you can reconfigure the electronics devices all around your house and you can also create electronics devices of your own.

Specifications

To run the basic stamp program, you must have a PC, a 3.5-inch disc drive, a parallel port, 128k or more RAM, and MS-DOS 2 or greater. You will need a 9-volt battery to power the stamp program. You can also use a power supply of 5 volts or less. Do not use more or you can damage the stamp program.

Microcontroller

A stamp is a microcontroller. Microcontrollers are types of computers that are embedded in another device like a consumer product. These microcontrollers perform one function and are very low power. They are often low cost and are designed to withstand physical abuse.

BASIC Programming Language

BASIC is a very simple programming language. Using BASIC requires some knowledge of programming, but anyone can do BASIC if they know Perl and C. You program the stamp using instructions like sosub and end. This instructs the stamp on how to operate.

Getting Started

You program a stamp by hooking it up to a computer. These stamps often come with wires that are designed to send data to and from a desktop or laptop computer using a device like a USB port. Then, the programmer uses a program or BASIC coding to program the stamp.

Running Stamp Editor

After hooking up your stamp, hit alt + R. The stamp will execute the program and you will get a stamp editor box on your screen. You can then enter in the BASIC programming code into the stamp editor. After this, you can save the coding to the stamp or click run to see how the coding functions with the microcontroller.
