Limousines are luxury vehicles driven by a chauffeur. Riding in a limousine often occurs a result of a celebration or special event such as prom, concert, wedding or a bachelor/bachelorette party. However, celebrities as well as other wealthy people sometimes use limousines on a regular basis because it's convenient and a status symbol.

    History

  1. In the 1700s, people were transported by horse-drawn carriages--the origin of chauffeur-driven vehicles. The carriages were also limited to the wealthy, with fine horses and ornate carriages decorated with detailed gold carvings. By the 1900s, engine-powered carriages were created and this is when a partition was used to separate the driver from the passengers. The first stretch limousine was built in Arkansas in the 1920s.
  2. Significance

  3. Limousines are convenient ways to transport a group of people from place to place. Not only are they spacious, but the modern models have luxurious features so that you can eat, be entertained or do your office work all while being chauffeured to your next destination. These cars are also used during special events to impress guests and to have a safe drive, especially if the passengers are planning on drinking.
  4. Features

  5. Modern limousines include various types of conveniences. Some have telephones, refrigerators, ice makers, leather seats, cup holders, lighted ceilings, television, electric outlets and tinted windows. Although they now have luxurious features, most still feature a partition. Depending on what type of limousine you get, you will have different options available. For example, the Party Bus limousines often have full bars and cable television. Similar to cars, if you buy a limousine, you have color options as well as options in car manufacturers. Although limousines can be purchased, many people rent them for a specific time period.
  6. Types

  7. Depending on what type of event you are attending and how many people you are traveling with, you will need to consider the different types of limousines. Stretch limousines can hold up to 10 people, but the Party Bus limousines can hold up to 22 passengers. There are also variations on the limousines such as the bus and the Hummer, which you might want to choose if you prefer these models over the standard limousine. Limousine manufacturers include Lincoln, Cadillac, Hummer, Chrysler and Mercedes.
  8. Benefits

  9. When you are a celebrity or an important figure in society, limousines can provide you with privacy as well as convenience. If you have to make a call or do work, you can complete these tasks while your chauffeur drives you to your destination. Limousines are also convenient and safe for people wanting to go out and party, because the chauffeur can be the designated driver. Also, when you need to be at an airport or other place early in the morning or late at night, riding in a limousine can give you time to catch up on your sleep and you avoid having to pay a storage fee for your vehicle at an airport.
