About Military Boot Knives

Military boot knives are of a fixed blade design, and are typically carried or concealed inside a high top boot. These knives are often times carried by military as well as law enforcement personnel who are involved in tactical activities. Boot knives are specifically designed to be used as backup weapons and many times in a last resort scenario in close quarter and hand to hand combat situations.

  1. Significance

    • The significance of military boot knives is their designed ability, in the right hands, to quickly change the outcome of a close quarter tactical situation. The long double edge blade is designed to cut in both directions. The concealment factor of clipping inside a boot is advantageous as a last resort weapon and also as a weapon unseen by an opponent.

    Function

    • Military boot knives are fairly straight forward in design and function. The knives fit into a sheath made of various materials and may or may not be secured by some type of retaining strap of leather or ballistic nylon. A large clip on the back of the sheath allows the unit to be attached to the side of a boot. When needed, the user need only pull on the handle of the knife to retrieve the weapon for use.

    Features

    • Boot knife features are typically very similar in that there is a fixed double edged blade attached to a handle. However, there are variations of the knife with features, such as solid or serrated blades, sculpted or smooth blades, and a variety of blade points including spear or clip. The sheath may also vary in material from leather to ballistic nylon to hardened plastics. Most all will feature a large clip for attaching to a boot.

    Size

    • Military boot knives are available in a range of blade lengths. The knife chosen will many times depend on the personal preference of the user as well as the intended use. Smaller boot knives may feature blades of 2 to 3 inches in length. However, there are larger knives which feature blades of up to 4 and 5 inches in length.

    Considerations

    • When choosing a military boot knife the intended use of the knife must be taken into consideration. From a tactical offensive standpoint, for example, a longer blade may be more desirable than a short blade. Keep in mind that the size blade will correspond to the size handle and overall length of the knife. This will also have an impact on carrying and concealing the knife in the boot.

    Warning

    • Military boot knives are designed with a single purpose. They are weapons of last resort. These knives are double edged and typically very sharp. Users who are not accustomed to two edged knives or use them carelessly may be easily injured by these weapons.

    Expert Insight

    • Military boot knives are designed to be of benefit to professionals in real world situations. It is unwise for civilians to carry these weapons in a concealed manner without realizing the potential implications. Most local laws regulate the length of a knife blade which may be carried in a concealed manner.
