About Craps Tables

Craps tables are a gambling game located in many casinos. These tables draw large crowds around them and tend to become very loud. Players at the table will support the shooter the majority of the time, hoping for him to roll a winning combination known as a "pass." Spectators are welcome at Craps tables, but there is a limit as to how many can bet on the playing surface of the Craps table. This limit is determined by the size of the table and the casino's policy.

Identification

Craps tables come in a variety of sizes, but are designed in the same way. This includes an area for bets to be placed, as well as an area for dice to be rolled. To keep the dice on the table, a typical Craps table has a large wall around the betting and dice rolling surface that is between one and two feet high. Craps tables are covered in felt, and have text written on them indicating each of the different bets that a player can make.

Types Of Wagers

The Pass line and Don't Pass line bets are two of the most common bets in Craps. Wagering on the Pass line means the wagerer feels the roller will make a winning roll of the dice. On the first roll this means rolling a seven or eleven, or at least does not roll a two, three, or twelve on that roll. If none of these numbers are rolled, the roller wins for those that bet on the pass line by rolling the same number he rolled on his initial roll on a subsequent roll before he rolls a seven. Players that bet on the Don't Pass line, indicate they feel the roller of the dice will fail to accomplish this task.
Players may also make wagers on the Craps table based on certain combinations of numbers coming up on the dice. These numbers can be either specific doubles rolled on the dice, or a specific total of the dice without it having to include doubles, which are matching values on the dice.

Employees Roles AT The Table

There are three different types of employees at a casino Craps Table. These include the boxperson, dealer and stickperson. The boxperson serves as the employee that oversees the table. The boxperson will handle giving out chips when a player purchases chips at the table, and at some casinos will even handle cashing out a player's chips at the table.
The dealer helps keep the game moving. He will assist in placing bets for players, by placing their chips for them if they are not close enough to place them on the betting area of the table. The dealer will pay out the winning bets and collect the losing bets after each roll.
The stickperson has one job: he is in charge of the dice. This means that the stickperson will collect the dice after each roll with a stock with a small hook on the end and either return them to the same roller or pass them to a new roller. The stickperson will not handle the dice with his hand, but will use the stick to collect and pass the dice.

Role of Players

The players at the Craps table serve one of two different roles. Everyone at the table is entitled to make a wager on each roll of the dice whether she is the shooter or not. The shooter is a player that rolls the dice at the Craps table. Every player at the table is permitted to take a turn at the table as long as they are wagering. It is possible for someone at the table to choose another individual to roll the dice for her on her turn. The shooter is expected to keep the dice on the table, and will continue rolling until she rolls a combination of the dice which results in players that made a pass bet losing their wagers.

There are chip holder located around the outside of the Craps table. These positions are meant to indicate how many players can play at the Craps table. If there are no open holders at the table, a player should wait for a spot to become open. If you need to leave the table for a short restroom, food, or beverage break, let the dealers know and they will place a towel over your chips. This indicates you can return to the table, and nobody can take your spot.
When rolling the dice, it is considered poor form to throw the dice off the table. The stickperson will inspect the dice if this happens for any damage to the dice and warn the shooter of the dice. If a player continues to throw the dice off the table, he will either be asked to leave the table, or forfeit his turn to roll the dice.
It is not against the rules to bet on the "Don't Pass line", but you will typically be in the minority at a Craps table making that bet. Celebrating winning "Don't Pass" bets is considered poor sportsmanship, and could result in upsetting your fellow players. If you win one of these bets, collect your chips, but don't "rub it in" about your victory.
