About Ford Trucks

Ford trucks are the most successful brand of trucks on the automotive market. While sales in other portions of the industry and within the Ford Motor Company have dropped, the division of trucks has continued to be a profitable venture with the company. Advertised as a working man's truck, Ford trucks have a long history of helping individuals haul and pull whatever it is they need done for over a century.

  1. Function

    • Produced by the Ford Motor Company, Ford trucks are used for a variety of purposes and purchased by many different individuals. Many people use them to transport materials, whether hauling in the pickup bed or pulling large objects with a trailer. Ford trucks have a varying rang of hauling capabilities depending on the size of the truck. Businesses use Ford trucks for different degrees of functionality, including the storage space available in the trailer bed.
Ford trucks also have a style that has been adopted by certain elements of society. The company's American persona has caused many rural residents to choose Ford over foreign manufacturers due to its long history of operation.

    Features

    • Ford trucks are known for their durability and power. The company uses large engines to offer its customer base the features of towing capacity and safety that Ford has come to represent.
Although it has in the past, Ford no longer produces tractor-trailers. The division was sold in 1997 to Freightliner Trucks, now part of Daimler. This left only the small and medium sized truck.
Its present, medium size truck line have been fitted with cargo holds and toolboxes. Some models come with extended cabs, adding extra seats to the truck cab. Many new models are also becoming available with hybrid technology.

    Types

    • There are a variety of different truck and engine sizes available from Ford. The Ford Ranger and F-150 weigh a ½ ton, the F-250 weighs ¾ ton, the F-350 weighs 1 ton and the Ford Super Duty weighs over a ton. Ford offer 4.9 Liter V6 engines in its smaller trucks, 5.8 Liter V8 in its mid-sized and 7.5 Liter V8 in its larger trucks. It also offers a 7.3 Liter Diesel V8 if a customer desires.
Ford is moving towards more hybrid technology and abandoning much of its manual transmission client base with its new designs. They are, however, poised to introduce even larger trucks with bigger engines that are said to get better gas mileage.

    Significance

    • Ford trucks account for over 50% of the company's revenue. Ford Motor Company continues to produce and sell trucks at a rate higher than any other rival company. For the past 23 years, the Ford F-Series has become the best-selling vehicle in the United States and the best-selling truck for 31 years. Based in the United States, the image of Ford has come to represent decades of truck hauling and capitalizes on its working man image.

    History

    • The Ford Motor Company first started producing trucks in 1908. Its early models were basically cars with large engines and flatbeds in the rear. The era of the truck didn't begin until the 1940s with the release of the first F-series line. Ford moved from producing car-based trucks and started making all new designs fully oriented to the needs a truck. Throughout the years, Ford has made improvements on its trucks, introducing larger and smaller sizes, each with its own towing capacities. Modern trucks offer most of the amenities of cars, while still providing the needs of a truck owner.
