Construction workers are any type of employee that works in the field of construction. This includes the general laborers as well as the more specialized workers such as electricians and bricklayers. They are responsible for creating the entire building and ensuring that all areas of the design are met. They also follow the safety regulations put forth by the government.

Considerations

Construction workers are generally labeled by the type of service they perform, which means that almost anyone who works in the field is considered a construction worker. For example bricklayers and carpenters are considered part of the construction field. Though they also work in their own fields, they're primarily known as construction workers. Those who work in the office but are still working on the plan are also considered construction workers as are electricians and those who work with steel products.

Types

The types of construction workers are identified by either the trade they do or the product that they work with on a daily basis. Bricklayers work with bricks and other masonry products, while carpenters work with wood. There are also equipment operators and plasterers. In addition there are different occupations that work on construction projects and are considered construction workers by some. Those jobs include plumber, painter and decorator. Those individuals who have no specialty are considered general laborers.

Workers in this field face more problems than almost any other type of job and the accidental death rate is quite high. These workers also face numerous health problems as the result of fumes and debris floating around the job site. While there are a lot of standards and regulations in place, there is no guaranteed way of avoiding injury.

Function

Construction workers are used during every phase of the building process, but especially during the construction. Once the architect finishes the design, it's the responsibility of the construction workers to ensure that all the design elements are put forth. They lay the foundation, create the walls and complete the building. They also follow the safety regulations to reduce the chances of anyone becoming injured on the job. Decorative elements such as brickwork and concrete are also finished by construction workers.

Those who work in the construction field are typically fairly strong in terms of their physical strength. This is necessary because they need to carry large amounts of supplies and work in strenuous conditions. These individuals face a high degree of stress on the job, which also requires that they have good coping techniques. Some individuals working in the construction field have an associate's or bachelor's degree, bringing the techniques they learned into the field.
