Chest hair is something that affects not only men, but women as well. This hair is usually evident from birth, but darkens and grows more during puberty. During this phase, it also becomes coarser and harder to the touch. The pattern of the hair changes depending on the person and may look sporadic in places.

The chest area is defined as the area above the belly button, but below the neck. The hair tends to look fairly dense and can be either curly or straight. It may go higher or lower depending on the man. There are some men who have chest hair that grows above their neck and some who have hair growing below the belt line.

Chest hair's patterns vary depending on the individual. One pattern is hair localized just between the pectoral muscles, with a lack of hair on other parts of the chest. Another pattern consists of hair found on the stomach and pectorals, without any hair found elsewhere on the chest. Another pattern of chest hair covers the whole torso, from the pectoral muscles down to the bottom of the abdominal muscles.

People tend to have very different feelings in regards to chest hair. There are some men who shave their chest hair because they feel it makes them look better and there are some women who agree with this idea. At the same time there are men who embrace their hairy chests and women who love that look on a man. It depends on the personal preference of the individual.

Those who wish to eliminate their chest hair can take one of two options. The first option is to shave the offending hair, and the second is to wax off the hair. Waxing involves applying hot wax directly to the skin, covering that wax with cloth strips and ripping off the hairs. With shaving, the hairs are gently removed by using a razor. Shaving can be done at home, but waxing should only be done under the care of a professional.

Chest hair is usually associated with men and refers to the hair on their chest area. However there are also females who have chest hair of their own. The hair typically appears during puberty, when the body changes and develops. Women who have high testosterone levels and women who smoke, may also see some chest hair appear. Their chest hair is typically lighter in color and density than the same hair found on men and may only appear in a few areas.
