Egg yolk hair conditioner is an easy, homemade solution for dry or damaged hair. Egg yolks are a key ingredients in homemade conditioning treatments because of the essential fatty acids and vitamins naturally present in the yolk. Applying this conditioning formula to hair can improve its appearance and result in softer, more manageable hair.

    History

  1. Before conditioners and hair treatments could be purchased at the local salon or drugstore, women used natural food items to improve the appearance and condition of their hair. One popular natural item used to improve the condition of hair is eggs. Today there is a plethora of store-bought treatments, but many people believe treatments made from natural food items are better for their bodies as well as the environment.
  2. Significance

  3. Eggs have become a popular ingredients in homemade hair conditioners because of their ability to improve the softness of hair and to reduce the occurrence of frizz and fly-aways. Many people also use egg yolk hair conditioners to reduce hair loss, and swear by the formula.
  4. Benefits

  5. Egg yolks are naturally rich in vitamin A, D, E and the B vitamins, which are all beneficial for improving hair's appearance. B vitamins are particularly important in maintaining healthy hair, and vitamins A and E are key vitamins necessary to prevent hair loss.
Another reason that egg yolk is used in hair conditioner is due to the naturally occurring fatty acids. These fatty acids will give hair a healthy shine and manageability when applied in conditioner form.
  6. Types

  7. Several different types of egg yolk conditioners are common. The most basic conditioning version involves a mixture of egg yolk (do not use any egg white) and either olive oil or castor oil. This type of egg yolk conditioner works best on normal to dry hair and scalps and results in much silkier feeling hair.
Another common type of egg yolk conditioner incorporates lemon juice along with the olive oil. This formula helps bring out natural highlights and helps make hair shine.
For dry hair with dandruff, a mixture of baking soda, egg yolk and olive oil is a popular solution. With this type of formulation, the wash should be massaged into the head to treat the scalp (the baking soda will exfoliate the scalp) as well condition the hair.
  8. Effects

  9. Though an egg yolk hair conditioner will immediately have a beneficial effect on dry hair, it should be used over the course of at least a month for a lasting effect. Generally speaking, egg yolk conditioning treatments should be applied to the hair at least once a week.
It is prudent to continue use of their hair treatment until the dry, frizzy hair has completely grown out and can be trimmed off. Since hair is technically dead, it cannot be permanently improved by a treatment. It is important to continue the treatments to maintain healthy, shiny hair and protect new growth from damage.
