Concerta Side Effects
Concerta is a drug that is used to treat both attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Concerta is meant to be integrated into a program that combines education, psychological and social treatments. Concerta stimulates the Central Nervous System and assists nerves and chemicals in the brain that cause hyperactive behaviors. As with any drugs, there are certain side effects associated with Concerta use.

Those who are considering taking Concerta should be aware of some noted common side effects of the drug. These possible side effects include dry mouth, sleeplessness, tics (uncontrolled, involuntary movements), headaches, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, common colds and stomach pain.

Other less common but possible side effects of Concerta are sinus irritation or infection, weight loss, lightheaded feelings, dizziness, sore throat, irritability, being injury prone, runny nose, heartburn, indigestion, digestion issues, excessive coughing, painful menstruation, tremors and fever.

It has also been noted that Concerta is capable of causing a temporary and small slowing of growth in children. However, the slowing of growth in children is usually rather small (and mostly not noticeable) and the children in most cases catch up to normal growth levels in rapid time.

There are also some more potentially serious side effects associated with Concerta. If you experience any of the following side effects, such as seizures, fainting, odd behaviors, restlessness, agitation, heart palpitations, chest pain, chest tightness, suicidal feelings, anxiety, confusion, more outgoing or aggressive behavior than usual, signs of allergic reactions (like hives, redness or swelling), shortness of breath, tachycardia or depression, you should stop using Concerta immediately and contact your doctor.

If you have an overactive thyroid and hypertension (high blood pressure), taking Concerta might exacerbate your condition and make it worse. Until your thyroid condition is managed, you should avoid Concerta. Concerta could potentially cause heart attacks, strokes and even sudden death in individuals that leave these issues untreated.
