Identification
-
The GED math test consists of two sections and contains a total of 50 questions---25 questions in each section. This particular test focuses on problem-solving, analytical and reasoning skills.
There are four major areas on the GED math test, which include number operations and number sense; measurement and geometry; data analysis, statistics and probability; and algebra, functions and patterns.
There are multiple choice questions as well as questions that require you to write out the answer. Test takers may use a Casio fx-260 calculator on the first section of the test; and a math formulas page is provided to all test takers to use during the test.
Time Frame
-
All test takers are given one and a half hours to complete the entire test, 45 minutes on each section. Depending on how fast you work, you only have about one and a half minutes to answer each question. Therefore, you need to work quickly but accurately in order to complete the test in a timely manner. There are absolutely no extensions or extra time given to finish the test.

Features
-
According to the American Council on Education, there are more than 3,400 GED testing locations throughout the world. Special accommodations can be made if you have certain conditions such as emotional or mental health problems or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The GED math test is offered in three different languages: English, Spanish and French.
Considerations
-
A variety of test preparation resources are available to help you prepare for the test. For example, you can take practice tests online by visiting websites such as Gedpractice.com, TestPrepReview.com and the McGraw-Hill Higher Education website. You can also visit your local library or a bookstore to locate current test prep materials. In addition, most colleges offer classes to help you better prepare for the GED math test. Check with a school in your area to find more information about these classes.
Warning
-
You can only take the GED math test at an official testing center. Although you may read about companies offering the test online, this test is only offered at appropriate testing locations. Anyone claiming to offer the GED math test online (or via mail) is committing fraud, and you should stay away from them. Please contact the American Council on Education for information on how to locate a testing center in your area.
