CD’s and DVD’s are reasonably priced and will hold from around 700 megabytes of storage on a CD-R to 8.5 gigabytes on a DVD-R. A 50 pack spindle of CD-R’s average $10 and a 20 pack spindle of high end DVD-4’s are around $30. Your next best portable option is a USB flash drive. Finding an 8 gigabyte flash for around $50 is not a problem and would be easier to transport than multiple DVD-R’s. For those who want the convenience of backing up most everything on their computer, external hard drives are the answer. Storage capacities range from 250 to 500 gigabytes with prices beginning at around $70.
