History

Hooters originated in Clearwater, Florida. Its doors first opened on October 4th, 1983. Doing its absolute best not to change much from how it began doing its business, the company still uses the same original uniform and logo. The restaurants have kept a comfortable look that has more of an "oldies" style, including keeping jukeboxes on site. Not quite a family restaurant, the chain does serve foods that satisfy children as well as adults. The majority of its customers are men between the ages of 25 and 54.

There are over 445 Hooters locations altogether.

Size

Within the hundreds of locations, there are over 25,000 employees. The most famous employees are the "Hooters girls." The women that are hired on as "Hooters girls" are all cheerleader-type girls who actually have helped the company grow in both profit and fame. Known for their uniform of short orange shorts and white tank tops, the girls are more than just mere eye candy for the restaurant visitors. The women that represent Hooters make various charitable appearances and promotions within the community of their local restaurants. The remaining Hooters staff consists of men and women with various titles and positions within the company.

Regularly recommended to potential customers for its spicy chicken wings, Hooters offers a range of other foods that are quite appealing. Some of the food that Hooters restaurants offer on their menu include salads, burgers, seafood, sandwiches, beer, wine and spirits. The casual environment makes it a great place to go to sit, eat and watch a sports game or two. Hooters restaurants also carry merchandise for customers if they choose to purchase T-shirts and other items with the Hooters logo.

Misconceptions

Over the years, there have been many debates as to whether or not Hooters was inappropriately exploiting women. Some speculated that the uniform was too "sexy" and said that it should have been changed. A part of the uproar was over the fact that the name "Hooters" is also a slang term for a woman's breasts. The company fired back on different occasions, defending the uniform and the position of the women stating that the sex appeal displayed by their Hooters Girls was no different than what you see from a football team's cheerleaders or even models. The women within the company are well respected and have the same opportunities for advancement as anyone else does within the company. One prime example of this would be Kat Cole who is the company's vice president of training and development. She began her career with the company as a "Hooters girl".
