Theories/Speculation
-
FedEx offers insurances on packages in the event that they should get lost in transit. When packages get lost, FedEx offers the shipper the amount the package was insured for. Before something is officially "lost," however, customers should call FedEx's customer service and they have about three days to track the missing item and then get back to you with its whereabouts and status. However, less than 1% of packages sent by FedEx get lost during the transportation process. The percentage is very similar to that of UPS.
