About Akita Inus
Akita Inus are a Japanese breed of dog. They are the largest of the Spitz breeds of Japan. They are a powerfully built, strong dog with distinctive, unique features. They are generally docile and calm-natured, and makes a wonderful guard dog. The dog originated in Akita on the main Japanese island of Honshu, and that is where it got its name. It is also commonly referred to as "Akita ken," from the Japanese "kanji" reading of its name.

Akita Inus originated in the Akita prefecture of Honshu in Japan. They are the national dog of Japan and as a breed have remained the same for centuries. They were originally bred to function as guard dogs, but have also served many other working purposes throughout history. They are also excellent hunting dogs. They were first brought to the United States by author and activist Helen Keller.

Akita Inus are evenly proportioned dogs and have flat, triangular heads and short, distinct muzzles. They have dark brown, triangular eyes and generally black noses. They are longer than they are tall, and have deep chests, stout limbs and flat backs. They come in varying colors, and are often brindle, pure white, sesame or red. Many Akita Inus also have black faces. They are generally short-haired, but they are fluffy, as well. They weigh between 75 and 120 lbs. and are between 24 and 28 inches long.

There are a lot of benefits to having an Akita Inu. They are generally good-natured, docile creatures. They love human companionship, and are faithful and gentle. They are very good around children and very useful in that they make excellent guard dogs.

Before getting an Akita Inu, there are a few factors to consider. Sometimes, the Akita Inu can be unpredictable. It is often wary of strangers and is capable of becoming aggressive toward other dogs. If it is teased, it's also capable of aggressive responses, such as biting.

Akita Inus have long coats of thick fur and they require a lot of careful grooming and maintenance. They should be bathed sparingly because excessive bathing of Akita Inus eliminates their coat's natural waterproofing. Their coats should be brushed with bristle brushes. This prevents their fur from matting and also can reduce their shedding. Be sure to clean their eyes on a regular basis as well.
