House of Blues in Las Vegas

When many people hear the House of Blues mentioned, they think of either Jim Belushi and the Blues Brothers or the beautiful Mandalay Bay and Casino. Few people know of the history of the House of Blues in Las Vegas or the involvement the founders have invested in their community. The House of Blues in Las Vegas incorporates the sounds of the African-American culture that have so richly influenced blues music and Southern food.

  1. History

    • The original House of Blues opened its doors in 1992 in Cambridge, Mass., on Thanksgiving Day after feeding the homeless. The original House of Blues was funded by contributions from Dan Akroyd, Jim Belushi, Aerosmith, Harvard University, River Phoenix and Paul Shaffer, among many others. The House of Blues in Las Vegas was established in the Mandalay Bay Casino in 1999. The main theme or mission for the House of Blues was to create racial and spiritual harmony through love, peace and truth and to celebrate the diversity of world cultures while creating a profitable global entertainment company.

    Features

    • The House of Blues in Las Vegas features a variety of live music acts from rock 'n' roll to country music and, of course, the blues. The music hall has live performances seven days a week with something to fit everyone's taste. Other then live bands, the House of Blues in Las Vegas features Godspeed (a member's only club), late nights at the venue and a state-of-the-art tattoo studio called Starlight Tattoo at House of Blues Las Vegas. Every Sunday, the House of Blues in Las Vegas hosts a gospel brunch, too. This includes a Southern-style brunch buffet and inspiring gospel music performances. Members also have access to the Foundation Room for business meets or gatherings.
      Within the facility, there is also an extensive American folk art collection lovingly referred to as "visual blues." The House of Blues has one of the largest displayed folk art collections in the country as well.

    • The House of Blues in Las Vegas is at 3950 Las Vegas Blvd., right on the main Strip. The House of Blues in Las Vegas is a part of the Mandalay Bay Casino and Hotel next to the Luxor and the Excalibur. If you ever want to find yourself in a place other than the House of Blues in Las Vegas with a similar atmosphere, there are plenty more located around the country. There are a few House of Blues venues in California, the Northwest, the Southwest, including Dallas, the Northeast (Atlantic City), the Midwest, with a Chicago site, the Southeast (New Orleans) and even a few in Canada.

    Time Frame

    • Depending on what show you want to see, events at the House of Blues in Las Vegas range from early evening to late night shows. Late nights at the House of Blues consist of karaoke with a live band and old-fashioned blues. Crash the Barricade is a preparty event that happens before an all-ages party. Usually the party has a $10 cover, which includes a hamburger, fries and a soda and a five-minute early entrance into the House of Blues hall. Because the House of Blues in Las Vegas is in the Mandalay Bay Casino and Hotel, events are going on at all times of the day and every day of the week.

    Warning

    • There are a few things to know before you attend the House of Blues in Las Vegas events. There are strict dress codes that are in effect for most concerts and events. Studded accessories and chained wallets are not accepted attire at the facility. Also, the House of Blues does not allow cameras. Remember to dress accordingly if you want to get in and get your groove on.
