About Fisher Price Toys

Fisher Price toys has been making toys for children for more almost eight decades. Designed for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, they hold up and continue to be passed down from one generation to the next. Although they update their toys with the times, some classics, such as Power Wheels, Rescue Heroes and Viewmaster remain as popular as when a young child's grandparents, or even great grandparents, first discovered them decades ago.

  1. History

    • Despite a worldwide depression, business entrepreneurs Herman Fisher, Irving Price and Helen Schelle, teamed up, bringing their 16 wooden toys to the 1931 International Toy Fair in New York City.
In 1969, Fisher retired as president of the company, and Quaker Oats bought the business. The company became independent in 1969 when Quaker Oats created its Fisher Price division in late 1993. The company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mattel, creating more growth in international markets, as more products were gained. When Mattel took over Tyco Toys in 1997, they made the Fisher Price brand name cover Mattel's infant and preschool products.

    Size

    • Military action figures

Fisher Price is not just for American kids, but is loved by children worldwide. At the Fisher Price International Website, you can find stores in Europe and the Asia Pacific, in addition to North and South America.

    Types

    • Fisher Price includes a wide selection of toy categories, including games, dolls, playsets, action figures, buildings, models, vehicles and planes. Their toys are also divided into ages groups of infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
A few of the infant products include crib toys and rattles to stacking and sorting, as well as push and pull toys. Some popular toys for toddlers, ages 12 to 36 months, are dollhouses, cars, vehicles, musical toys and trikes riders. For preschoolers, 3 years and up, there are many of the same toys as toddlers, only more advanced, in addition to games and electronic learning toys.

    Features

    • Fisher Price toys are functional and durable. Their Kid Digital Camera is an example. This digital camera for kids takes real pictures and is also kid-proof durable. With eight megabytes of memory, this digital camera takes real pictures and can store up to 60 pictures. You can even add an SD memory card for extra storage.
The toys are educational. Preschoolers learn as they play. One of the first toys most parents get their toddlers is the Fisher Price ABCs, which prepares kids for school.
Interactive and imaginative toys let kids pretend. Kids can take on roles such as as homemakers, firefighters, nurses and doctors. Fisher Price's ample selection of toysallows small children to enter the world of adults. They're also imaginative and, of course, always fun.

    Misconceptions

    • Fisher Price toys aren't just for kids. There's a collector's club for "kids" of all ages. Organized in 1993, the Fisher Price Collector's Club is a non-profit organization which researches and writes about the toys, in addition to promoting toy collections. They also have a newsletter, "The Gabby Goose," which is published three times a year, as well as holding annual conventions in the company's hometown of East Aurora, New York.
