Water aerobics instructors are certified fitness instructors who offer clients a wide range of services that include cardio exercises, weight management tools and positive support and feedback. A fitness leader for men and women, and in some cases, children, water aerobics instructors teach the proper conditioning of the body and application of exercise for those with weight issues or concerns. Persons recovering from an injury or just wanting to lead an active life can also benefit from water aerobics.

    Identification

  1. Water aerobics instructors must complete varying levels of fitness instruction before becoming certified in water aerobic fitness training. Instructors that offer a specialization in rehabilitation or personal training are required to become certified in those areas as well. Generally, each specialization requires an additional credential or course study certificate with required practicum. Onsite instruction and required written examinations are subject to state law and will vary depending on the type of services provided.

  4. Significance

  5.
The goal of water aerobics instructors is to help clients with weight management or weight reduction goals. Men and women turn to water (aqua) sports and fitness to combat a sedentary or unhealthy lifestyle. Sessions generally last from 45 to 60 minutes and cover some aspect of weight management training and healthy living instruction. Each client is evaluated based on her individual needs and goals.
  6. Potential

  7. Water aerobic instructors earn on average $25 an hour, however this rate is dependent upon specilization and advanced certification, experience level, full- or part time status, the facility where instruction is provided and the state where the instructor works.
  8. Features

  9. Water aerobic instructors will need to invest in the following equipment or use that provided by the facility:

    Buoyancy equipment
    Resistive equipment
    Land or water equipment
    Noodles
    Kickboards
    Hydropool yoga kit

Additional equipment may be required depending on the program.
  10. Considerations

  11. Confirm that any certification course that is taken provides water aerobics instruction certification training in the areas of theory and practical application. Be wary of any program that is offered exclusively online or one that does not allow proper training at a qualified certification facility.
  12. Warning

  13. Confirm that the water aerobics instructor has renewed his certification in the last two years. Renewed certification is required every two years.
