Swimming Pool Safety Signs

Swimming pool safety signs should be posted large and clear at both public and private swimming pools. The bold, colorful signs help maintain a safe swimming environment for everyone. From clearly labeling where is it safe to dive, to health regulations mandated by the city, swimming pool safety signs are meant to be helpful and informative. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Features

    • Strong contrasting colors should be used on pool safety signs. Common color combinations are red or blue writing on a white background. Choose a font that is clear, bold and easy to read. Simple figures and illustrations should accompany brief text, to make a greater immediate impact for all ages.

    Types

    • Safety warnings include where not to dive, whether or not there is a lifeguard on duty, state regulations about showering before entering the pool and even that there is a pool on the premises. Other safety signs might include a warning not to run, a warning for parents not to leave children unattended and a list of items that are not permitted near the pool, such as glass containers and electronics.

    Size

    • Swimming pool safety signs should be large enough to be read from all areas of the pool. If the pool has many areas, signs will need to be posted in each area, including the adult pool, a whirlpool area and the children's wading pool.

    Identification

    • Swimming pool safety signs should be posted in a location that will be seen by every person entering the pool area. In a backyard home pool setting, many signs are posted on gates leading to the backyard, warning there is a pool in the yard. This provides a warning to people visiting with small children, so they don't accidentally wander ahead and fall into the pool. At a public pool, warning signs may be posted on the pool house, on the fence surrounding the pool, near a clock for high visibility and even in the changing and shower room areas. All pools will have safety signs at the edge of the pool itself, to let swimmers know where it is safe to dive, the water depth and where the water intakes are located so they may be avoided.

    Benefits

    • Swimming pool safety signs help promote a safe swimming environment. At public swimming pools, safety signs may be required by state, federal or city laws to ensure the safety of its patrons.
