About Virgos

Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac. Those who fall under the astrological sign of Virgo are born roughly between August 23 and September 22. The sign is ruled by the planet Mercury, and is considered an earth sign. Virgo is represented by the Virgin and those that fall under this sign are generally known for being practical, intelligent and perfectionists.

  1. History

    • Virgo in Greek mythology is represented by Astrea. She was the virgin goddess, daughter to Zeus and Temis. Astrea was the goddess of justice. She was supposedly the last of the humans to return to the sky, before becoming the constellation Virgo. In addition to Astrea, Virgo is strongly associated with Persephone, who was the daughter of Demeter. She was the goddess of innocence, kidnapped by Hades, she became queen and ruled the underworld for half of the year.

    Features

    • Virgo's in astrology are generally represented as being analytical. They are considered practical, and perfectionists. Ruled by the planet mercury, Virgos are usually highly intelligent and are ruled by their intellect. However, they are also an earth sign and are usually very grounded individuals. Virgos are also considered idealistic. They are represented by the Virgin and are generally shy, waiting to give their love to a person that is truly deserving of it. In relationships, Virgos find kinship with fellow earth signs Taurus and Capricorn. Virgos can also find true balance with the emotive water signs Cancer and Scorpio. However Pisces, being astrologically opposite to Virgo, are much less compatible, being far too emotional for the typical Virgo.

    Benefits

    • Virgo's are very practical people, and are thus fairly humble and down to earth with a good work ethic. Being very analytical, Virgos tend to also be detail-oriented. They are usually neat, organized and also punctual. Though Virgos tend to withhold their affection until they've found someone worthy, when they do find someone they love, they are very loyal individuals.

    Considerations

    • Owing to their perfectionism, Virgos can be overly critical, both of themselves and of others. Virgos can have a tendency to come across as aloof. When Virgos do talk, it is rarely about their feelings, making them sometimes appear cold or distant. Virgos who have been disappointed in life can turn into hardened cynics.

    Misconceptions

    • Though Virgos tend to rely on their intellect this does not mean that they are without feelings. Virgos have a hard time talking about their feelings, however when they do find the right person, they can be very open. Virgos preference for anonymity in a crowd can make them seem as though they have no interest in making friends however, once they overcome their shyness, Virgos are very loyal, generous friends.
