Groomers work in commercial storefronts, out of their homes, in clients' homes and in mobile units.

It will also vary upon the level of trust and familiarity between the groomer and the animal. Generally, a dog grooming session takes 40 minutes to 3 hours, depending on what is being done.

Many animal groomers also own their own businesses or work on a freelance basis, allowing them to make their own hours. There are also some benefits to the animal being groomed. Despite the freedoms and joys associated with being an animal groomer, there are also difficulties to consider. There are no specific licenses in pet grooming, even though there are specific certifications. While this makes it easier to open a grooming business, it also allows less protection for the groomer.
