About Orange Julius

Orange Julius is a company selling fruit smoothie drinks, fruit beverages and snacks such as nachos, hot dogs and pitas. With a seventy-five year history, Orange Julius has been serving up its most famous orange fruit beverage for decades and Orange Julius stores are now more widely located. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. History

    • Orange Julius was founded by Julius Freed and his friend Bill Hamlin in 1926. The first Orange Julius store was located in California. The first Orange Julius facility shared its space with unrelated tenants. Initially, Orange Julius sold orange juice only, but Hamlin's idea of blending the orange juice with other ingredients became immediately popular. 1929 saw an expansion to 100 stores. In the 1960s, Orange Julius could be found in Canada, at the Worlds Fair, and in the hands of comedian Johnny Carson, who received a lifetime supply pass from the company. In the late 1970s, the company went truly international, opening a storefront in Hong Kong. In the 1980s, Orange Julius continued to develop and diversify its drinks and was eventually purchased by Dairy Queen's parent company.

    Types

    • Orange Julius offers fruit smoothies in many flavors, including the following core flavors: orange, strawberry, berry and peaches and cream. The regular fruit drinks available are not quite as thick and more refreshing on a summer day and also come in a variety of flavors such as strawberry banana. Most Orange Julius locations offer over seven varieties of hot dogs as well as other snack foods.

    Size

    • Orange Julius beverages come in three sizes: 16, 20 and 32 ounces. Nachos come in two sizes to suit any appetite.

    Warning

    • Consumers with special dietary needs and food allergies should ask about the ingredients of Orange Julius food and beverages. Some items served at Orange Julius contain milk, wheat, coconut, almond, egg, and various berries and fruits that may trigger allergies in some consumers.

    Considerations

    • Nutrition is an important consideration when ordering food and beverage. The Orange Julius beverages vary greatly. The original Orange Julius contains only 130 calories in the small size and a large dose of vitamin C. On the other hand, a 20 ounce Cocoa Latte Swirl provides a whopping 960 calories and a heavy dose of sodium. Nutritional information is available on the Orange Julius website for concerned consumers.
