About Work at Home Jobs
With the economy struggling, many people who were laid off from their job are now left at home. Some employees will thrive on the option of working at home for companies that advertise that opportunity. Others may find that working at home has a lot more hidden pitfalls than they were aware of when they accepted the work-at-home job. Finding a reputable company to work for at home can make your experience rewarding, both financially and emotionally.

Significance
-
Working at home is appealing to many people because it offers more flexibility than traditional office or retail jobs offer. The ability to work at home for parents can be very beneficial as this gives them the opportunity to stay home with a newborn or young child. It can also be appealing to individuals with physical disabilities, because they do not have to worry about transportation to their workplace. Work-at-home jobs also appeal to senior citizens who prefer not to drive to the office.
Function
-
Work-at-home jobs are based on a communication agreement between the employee and employer. The employer will either mail, e-mail or call the employee with an assignment. That employee will then be responsible for completing the assignment at home within a specified amount of time. Many such jobs require that the employee stays in contact with their employer during the day via phone or e-mail.

Types
-
Finding a work-at-home job that appeals to you may be easy because there are many opportunities. Some of these include data entry opportunities. Others include telemarketing, in which a worker makes phone calls from home either for surveys or sales. Another popular work-at-home job is to assemble items, such as jewelry, crafts and packets to be mailed out for promotional campaigns, for manufacturers.
Time Frame
-
Working at home requires a strong ability to meet strict timed goals. The employer will typically require that a project be completed by a specific date or they will not pay for the work that is done. Some employers will grant extensions when necessary, but they require that the employees keep them informed on a daily basis about their progress on the assignment.
Warning
-
For every legitimate work-at-home opportunity there are plenty of scams willing to take advantage of hard workers. Employees who work at home should avoid accepting jobs in which they're required to pay for a kit upfront. Employers who do this are known for failing to pay and making their money off the upfront payment for the kit. Find out as much information as you can about possible employers. Contact organizations such as the Better Business Bureau and your state's Department of Commerce for complaints about a company before agreeing to work with them. Make sure the employer states clearly what is expected of you, the minimum requirements for pay, and the amount that will be paid.
