One consideration that has to be a part of decision making on headboards is the décor of the bedroom. If the bedroom is a child's room, the considerations include the furniture already in the room as well as the wall colors and curtains. In addition, the headboard should speak of the character of the user. For example, if the child were interested in sports, considerations would include sports paraphernalia as it pertains to the headboard. Similarly, the adult who wants to make a statement in the bedroom would include her personality and preferences.
