American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) auto insurance is a special insurance program offered through The Hartford insurance company. It is available to members of the AARP and their family members. The program is most known for its 12-month policy and lifetime renewability.

    History

  1. The partnership between The Hartford and AARP has now gone on for more than 20 years and is slated to continue until 2020. Only AARP members can participate in the insurance program, but anyone can get an online quote.
  2. Features

  3. The most common feature of the AARP auto insurance program is the 12-month rate guarantee, unlike most insurance programs, which offer insurance rates renewable every six months. The other features include lifetime renewability (once a policy holder, you are guaranteed continued coverage) and new car replacement (if your car is totaled within the first 15 months or 15,000 miles after it is bought, it will be replaced with a new car at the current value).
  4. Benefits

  5. Some of the benefits of the insurance program are:
    1. The usual premium increase following an accident is waived if it is the first accident.
    2. If you maintain a clean driving record during the year, your deductible is reduced by $150 and by $50 each year until it gets to zero if your diving record remains clean.
    3. Your deductible is waived if you are in an accident that is not your fault.
    4. You get a $100 deductible waiver if you use an approved repair shop.
  6. Considerations

  7. The AARP auto insurance program offers several discounts, including for defensive driving, anti-theft device, driver education for anyone under 21 covered by the policy, and good-student discount for any full time student under the age of 25 covered under the policy who has a good driving record.
  8. Warning

  9. Most of the features and benefits offered by the AARP insurance policy could become void if for any reason you miss your premium payment or it is late. There have been some consumer complaints about non-flexibility on the part of The Hartford when a payment is late.
