The 1967 Camaro
The Corvette, the Mustang, the Charger, the Viper and the Camaro have long been symbols of American muscle in the automotive world. These cars are iconic and no matter how often they are revamped for the times, the one trait they sustain is the "you won't take me alive" attitude they exude. Specifically, the history of the Camaro is a long and rich one and can be traced as far back as the 1960's. The 1967 Camaro is the very first model Chevy ever released and it was based on the Chevy compact Nova. The uni-body structure of the Camaro from the windshield to the firewall back, with a separate steel sub-frame provided a sleek aerodynamic look to the car that was growing popular in the late 60's with such vehicles as the dodge charger. Semi-elliptical leaf springs provided the rear axle of the car with suspension, while it had double A-arms for the independent front suspension. The car's 230 cubic-inch engine was said to produce 140 horsepower with a base price set at $2,466. Of course, this size was adjustable depending on the consumer's needs.

Camaro of the 80's
In the 1980's when there was a global fuel shortage, Camaro came out with its very first 4 cylinder engine model. This version of the car was more fuel efficient than any of those that came before it. This was also the period when the body type was given a futuristic look more compatible with the decade. The Camaro body has officially been redesigned three times since 1967. Once in the 80's once for the 90's and now the 2000's prototype is being released.
Misconceptions

Camaro of the 90's
The classic debate when analyzing American muscle has been Camaro verses Mustang, or Chevy verses Ford, which is better. If you search on any number of forums you will find reasonable arguments from both sides of the fence. On one hand, many Camaro enthusiasts argue that Mustang sacrificed power for cosmetic appeal, making the Camaro the more powerful option. Likewise, some say the mustang has maintained its tradition while Chevy stopped manufacturing Camaros for a brief time in the 90's. Whatever one's position, all of these enthusiasts argue that anyone lucky enough to get their hands on either brand is blessed.
